Hurricanes are the most vicious and destructive of all storms with winds up to 100MPH swirling around the quiet eye in the center of the big blow.

Forming over warm waters, hurricane paths are fairly easy to track with information from the US Weather Bureau, following a basic path although sometimes veering erratically from left to right. Hurricanes lose strength passing over land but leave a path of widespread destruction in coastal areas.

Each year a list of male and female names for hurricanes are published by the US Weather Bureau and the World Meteorological Assn. although they retire the names of those hurricanes that reach land and play havoc with coastal areas.
